    Specifically, the discovery of the fossil fish tiktaalik in Devonian-age rocks of Arctic Canada, is that it's an excellent example of evidence for evolution.

    Those opposed to accepting evolution often whine that it's "not really science" because it can't be proven using the scientific method in a lab. Ignoring things like fruit flies and bacteria for a moment, the fact that Shubin's team predicted the fish would be there based on age and depositional environment of the rocks in which it was fossilized, went there, and in a few short field seasons, found what they had hypothesized would be there, is an exciting and satisfying outcome. In effect, they had run a real-world experiment, the results of which provide strong evidence for evolution.
