That is like saying being a lawyer is just like taking an English class, because lawyers use words.  The language of statistics is math, but statistics itself is something entirely different.

I am guessing you don't want me to provide a mathematical vs. a statistical proof to demostrate the point.

I am a statistician, not a magician although we are easily confused. I guess that explains why people keep trying to tie me in chains and place me under water.

In Math

1 + 1 = 2

In statistics assume

X + Y are Standard Normal  Random Variables with a Expected value of 1.  (Naturally do not assume that they are in the same linear deminsion, as there is no baisis for that assumption.)  Therefore

1 + 1 = (0,2) +- e
