    I can see why artists would like to capture it.  A compelling face on a compelling person.

    Isn't it interesting that once you reach a certain age, there's a lot of prestige to be gained by suddenly advancing in age an extra 10 or 20 years.  My husband has a few ancestors claiming similar.  I have to admit in their defense though, since they were born into slavery and no access to census records to get a better estimate, by the time they died it was pretty difficult to pin down a better birth year.

    Yeah, I agree, the "nickname" is cringe-worthy.  I guess they thought it was "endearing" in those days.

      who claimed to be over 100 years old, making her dad 13 years old when she was born. LOL.

      Yeah, really odd what they called endearing in those days. There's also a Dummy Hoy, the baseball player, and a deaf serial killer nicknamed Dummy.

        who actually were 13 years old when they had kids. A couple of them have pretty odd stories.

        Agree with you 100% about "Dummy."
