    Time-Warner split into two companies several years ago -- one of those companies owns the cable systems, and a separate company owns the cable networks and the content.  

    My understanding of this deal is that Comcast is proposing to buy only the company that owns the cable systems, not the company that holds the content and networks.

    Mind you, this deal should still be rejected, because the resultant concentration in cable TV and broadband is still a really bad idea.
