    that influential portions of our society prefers shaming the poor. I mean really, how can one truly feel wealthy if there aren't people suffering because they have less? Or even better, nothing? snark

      of their own feelings of inadequacy and inferiority onto others, is what I'm betting. They know themselves to be undeserving of the wealth and perqs that they have. They know damned well that they came by what they have in crooked, unethical ways, but they don't want to own that, so they transfer it to 'the other', and despise it from a safe distance.  Presto.
