When Snowden's first disclosures came out last June, he said his biggest fear was that nothing would be done, or nothing would change. Something close to that.

How it gets changed or stopped is what's missing and I don't have the answer.

Agreement that something needs to be changed or stopped is missing. That part should be easy, but it's not.

50,000 and square one is where there's general consensus that bulk data collection is a scam. Do we have that part?

What happens when people get the idea that their personal data belongs to them? Every click, every keystroke. If you had a proper disclosure in plain English with big font and estimates of your data's dollar value so that you understood what you were giving away it would be different. I'm looking at insider sales of FB and I don't know if these numbers can be real.

I didn't mind giving my data away for free until I realized how it got passed around and even the government gets it for free. Are they saving it up so that we can cash it out someday for a few pennies?

Was that in any of the 50,000 messages?

But NOPE; it's not me suggesting and carrying out the endless, redundant discussions here on the same subjects/problems.

How it gets changed or stopped is what's missing and I don't have the answer.
totally disingenuous. you do in fact know the answer: action by Congress.

but we also know Congress isn't acting on much of anything important. so the endless discussion, "careful analysis" here is just spinning our wheels, stalling-- because the reality is Congress is not going to take action regarding the crucial issues facing our nation.

I'd like to be a stand-up comic. Someday.

"Action by Congress." That's a pretty good one, too.

        Congress isn't Congress anymore.

        I see three possibilities:

        • Public pressure, 24/7, relentless dissent.
        • Intervention from abroad.
        • $$$$$ A backlash from business when its profits are lost. $$$$$
