  •  I don't know what Just Saying is referring to (9+ / 0-)

but I believe he is incorrect on this:

It's just the ACA-exchange policies that can't be purchased until the next open enrollment
I don't see how the exchanges can close down, because someone has to accept applications from people with qualifying life situations.  AND the people that will have those in 2014 is going to be large.  This is not widely understood, but we at DK need to understand this.  Please see my comment for more a bit below:

    •  See my source reference, above. (5+ / 0-)

I see where there could be some confusion, though. I should have clarified that, in addition to the off-exchange insurance policies, which are available to anyone, people who have qualifying life situations (lost employment, moved, etc.) may purchase exchange policies after 3/31. So the exchanges are still open for them, and for people signing up for Medicaid.

    •  My daughter researched this. The day her (0+ / 0-)

husband's work insurance ends (he quit his job) is the day she can sign up for a Platinum plan that covers all her medications and costs half what they were paying for her, without subsidies.

        * That people know about this (her special enrollment period lasts for 60 days after the last day of employment I believe)

        * And that the cost for them works out well.

        •  She's thrilled. Her meds cost $600 (0+ / 0-)

a month.  With them covered (plus a small co-pay) she's way ahead financially.

          •  This is why... (0+ / 0-)

...some economists think the ACA will be a huge boon to the economy. Think of the additional spending power your daughter has now!

            •  And she spends it updating her house, (0+ / 0-)

              And upgrading her neighborhood.
