The 3M82 "Mosquito" missiles have the fastest flying speed among all antiship missiles in today's world. It reaches Mach 3 at a high altitude and its maximum low-altitude speed is M2.2, triple the speed of the American Harpoon. The missile takes only 2 minutes to cover its full range and manufacturers state that 1-2 missiles could incapacitate a destroyer while 1-5 missiles could sink a 20000 ton merchantman. An extended range missile, 9M80E is now available.

      Sunburn and the older 555.
There has never been a CVN versus ASM clash.

There are all types of problems associated with the attacker in this scenario....First he has to locate the battle group, then he has to be able to project sufficient force out (that's lots of expensive long range bombers, their electronic warfare support, tankers etc), then his aircraft will have to shoot their way through the CVNBG's CAP....after that they get a shot at the carrier (even then, they are not guaranteed a hit)

All of this would have to be done by either Iran, China, Russia or North Korea.....none of whom have any tradition or experience in modern naval warfare.

Yes, the fleets carriers can burn....but to make it sound like a fait accompli is simply not realistic.

(BTW, something Meteor Blades doesn't mention is that at all times 2-3 of the Navy's CVN's are in refit meaning they aren't available for operations)
