    Yes, and since he'd converted from Catholicism, he could still tell Catholic jokes. Funny stuff. The dentist was played by Bryan Cranston, a talented comic actor (also played the Dad on Malcolm in the Middle), years before showing his dramatic chops in Breaking Bad.

    I am on a private mailing list started in the 90's that is majority Jewish, observant and non, and I cannot repeat some of the jokes they have posted, because I am not Jewish. One was so offensive, I actually gasped. Another friend on the list suggested once that the lapsed catholics should start telling Catholic jokes, since we couldn't repeat the Jewish ones.
