in advance, so be ready to get on the phone :) There is also the Chez Panisse Cafe, but that is not the entity that made the name famous.

There are two Berkeley Bowls now - the original is on Adeline Street, and the newer one is on Heinz St, right off the Ashby freeway exit. It's larger and more spacious, but still gets crowded on the weekends. It's very funny - at least for the first year or so, we'd be walking along Heinz and someone would stop their car and ask where Berkeley Bowl was. They would be right in front of it - but the huge, grey, two-story building doesn't look like a grocery from that street.

Also of note: the Bowl's wares are excellent but their cafe is nothing to write home about. If you're looking to go out for lunch in the area, "900 Grayson" or Riva Cucina are both within a few blocks.

    •  Thanks for the insider info. We usually do lunch (1+ / 0-)

or dinner at some other places in SF that we like. We also want to hit the Ferry building again and pick up some preserved items that I have heard about.
And, I will make reservations when we firm up our plans. My Sweetie is on the verge of retire or not retire?
