  •  Well, let me paraphrase Karl Marx here (8+ / 0-)

"religion punditry is the opiate of the masses"

Marx' original phrase has several different but similar English translations but the general idea is the same. It's equally appropriate to pundits who predict doom and gloom for Democrats.

I think the "bleak results" being forcast for the Democrats is just another example of the Republicans' 'big lie" approach to campaigning:

1 - Suppress the opposition vote (voter ID)
2 - Block the vote (voter ID)
3 - Lie about your own policies ("jobs jobs jobs")
4 - Lie about your OWN chances ("we're gonna win HUGE!"
5 - Lie about the oppositions' chances ("Dems gonna lose BIG")
6 - Bludgeon the masses with paid advertising and  electioneering propaganda (527's, Super PACs, Kochs, Adelson, Freiss, etc)
    7 - rinse and repeat

America's LAST HOPE: vote the GOP OUT in 2014 elections. MAKE them LOSE the House Majority and reduce their numbers in the Senate. Democrats move America forward - Republicans take us backward and are KILLING OUR NATION!

      And if I may add...

...just another example of the Republicans' 'big lie" approach to campaigning...
...the pundits' servicing of this approach is another example of "even-handedness" standing in for objectivity and accuracy.

And whether it's pundits or those items listed in your number 6, it's a puzzlement - to me, anyway - that so many "information consumers" will surrender the skepticism they're capable of applying to weight-loss pill and exercise gadget ads, or "I have a $2 million check for you if you'll furnish your banking info" spam, when it comes to political messaging.

Not very helpful, admittedly; merely observational.

      •  The deliberate "both sides do it" (8+ / 0-)

approach to this is not only patently UNTRUE, it's damnably maddening.

I am CONSTANTLY having to keep myself from throwing things at the TV machine when I hear Republican talking heads  who are allowed to get away with this bullshit "both sides do it" meme!

        NO, DEMOCRATS DON'T!  Want proof?
Compare Debbie Wasserman-Schultz to Marcia Blackburn when they are on-air. Schultz is polite, and truthful, Blackburn is arrogant, rude, pushy, and full of hot air and TeaParty talking points.

Republicans use this meme to keep the public from appreciating just how much of the gridlock in Washington is bring driven by ONE political party, who has lost their ever-lovin' minds: The REPUBLICANS, who have been totally polluted by the Tea Party.

    •  I think I would add (1+ / 0-)

      reasonshouldrule

changes in early voting arrangements and polling places, disinformation and (in some cases) outright intimidation to #2.

After all, defense in depth works best.

      •  Thanks for supplementing (2+ / 0-)

My list was far from complete, and your points are well-taken.

        Black Panther Patrols, anyone?
