  •  Totally anecdotal (4+ / 0-)

but if watching the impossibly stupid contestants during another night of "College Week" on Wheel of Fortune is any indication on the state of higher education in this country we are in for a world of hurt...

    •  how's this... (2+ / 0-)

I was just at the supermarket. I usually go to the self check-out line, but it was packed!  So I was able to find a line with a checker that had two people with barely any stuff - PLUS someone was also there packing bags!

The person at front was done and paid.  I get my stuff up on the belt.  The woman in front of me is so (friggin') engrossed in text messaging she's just standing there, nose to her phone.

There's a woman behind me that can't put HER stuff on the belt because I can't move and the stupid woman in front of mine is texting away.

FINALLY, she realizes the checker is waiting for her (duh... the checker had already checked all her five items).  the woman takes out a card and swipes it.  Then looks up at the checker like - how come it's not working.  She swipes it again.  I see it's like one of those gift cards.  I'm thinking - oh great.  Now I"m stuck behind someone who is having problems with a card!!

Then the checker is trying to peer at what the woman is using and says - uh... that's not our store.  That card is for the supermarket on the other side of the tracks.

Then the woman says, It isn't??  I thought it was...

blah blah blah.  She finally pays with a credit card.  And she's still saying, wow, I don't even know where I am! (meaning which supermarket she's in)

      blah blah blah.

      people are weird.
