    Your point is a great one.  Very important. A key facet in a contemporary American portrait.

    The reduced mobility of the American people, down from a high at the mid-20th century, is fascinating, especially when placed alongside the vertiginous rise in income inequality, the dumbing-down of the public school system, corporate consolidation of media in the hands of a very few players (with its attendant shrinking of horizons in terms of diversity of programming, formats and content), and the reduction in train infrastructure (and conservative efforts across states to kill public works projects and mass transit expansion).
