A parallel example is replacing Jay Leno with Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show. Jay Leno had been phoning it in for the last few years, if not earlier. (Almost every night I watched Leno would toss in a token Bill Clinton infidelity joke -- sheesh, that happened over 15 years ago!)

I watched some episodes the first few weeks Fallon was in control, & there was a whole new energy to the show. Fallon was not only working with new ideas, he clearly was having fun with the show. And fun attracts people back.

On the other hand, anger gets old fast & drives people away. Even if there's a good reason for it. I remember listening to Randy Rhodes, & finding her tiresome because her rants on Bush & Co. -- despite being well justified & accurate -- because I'm forced to disengage in the face of uninterrupted anger, even if it's not directed at me.

I don't know why that hasn't happened sooner with Limbaugh. Maybe his core audience are old white men who are angry at the world -- either for specific reasons, or just in general -- but are so insecure they need someone like that blowhard present in their life so they feel secure in being angry.

To be truthful, it's one of the reasons I watch MSNBC five
nights a week.  That's my value, my viewpoint.

I love the sparkle in Lawrence O'Donnell's eyes when Republicans come up empty once again.
