  •  Re Methane and Clthrate releases (4+ / 0-)

I'm not sure Hansen is 100% right here.

Not about whether there were release in prior epochs, I'll take his word on that.

Bu there are forces at work now that were not present in prior warmings. Specifically:

    - Arctic Drilling. This is going to happen, and god knows what the drillers are going to do to disturb ocean-bed clathrates.

    - Rapidity of warming. Rapid cooling/thawing rapidly causes more disruption than slow cooling/thawing (just ask Dr. Doom), and the changes we're undergoing are far more rapid than any the planet has seen.

Nothing I've seen* about the climate models take either of these into account. So, I don't think these worries can be categorically ruled out, although I'll agree they're much less of a panic item.

(*Maybe there's something I don't know there, feel free to inform.)

They got a permit from the Greenland (Denmark?) powers-to-be to prospect where "humans have never been before."
It's interesting as the geologist is very careful to follow the rules  while others want to bend same.

They found a vein of rubies worth several million. Don't know what their take is but all were very happy.

      Looking for gold next episodes.

Only a matter of time b4 those clathrates poke their heads out.

    •  They're doing everything possible to disturb them! (1+ / 0-)

The Japanese in particular are hell bent to commercialize this "resource" - and probably will do so within 5 years.

      D'ohh!!
