Back in the nineties my job took me traveling around the world for a couple of years, places where the sunsets are beautiful or would be if you could see them through all the different colors of purple, yellow, green, and red haze that has people all over Asia wearing masks.

The causes range from people burning forests to clear ground and habitats for profit making alternatives to a beautiful natural world, to unregulated manufacturing that probably looks a lot like Los Angeles c 1910.

I also noticed a lot of people whose idea of acceptable regarding plutocracies, hospitality, poverty, disease, climate change, plague, pestilence, famine, drought, infant mortality, on the job safety, malnourishment, resource war, living to be elderly, and exploitation of workers differed rather widely from what I had become use to living here in the US.

    •  sunsets here are because of dust from farming (3+ / 0-)

When my folks lived in Charleston, WV the sunsets were amazing- pollution

I wasn't saying our country is worst, but the attitudes are. Hyperbole is the order of the day. I am in a place where I yearn for peace and simplicity

We live on the shoulder of a mountain in midcoastal Maine. The ocean is downeast and to my south, so there isn't a lot of dust from farming from those directions and to my west are the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Our lives have a good deal of peace and simplicity, we can make our own food, clothing and shelter, have gotten used to keeping our energy use rather low, but as we get older its harder to keep things that way.
