  •  Beautiful vegetation, thanks for the pics. (13+ / 0-)

Spring is such a great time to be there with the flowers blooming. Those bright colors are such a contrast to the overall desert yellow/brown. The second to last might be a geranium of some kind - the foliage has that look. The Ocotillos are stunning.

I took a year long botany class when I was at UCSB and we went on several multiday field trips, one to the deserts of southern Ca. Plural. It was a real epiphany for me, an igorant northesterner, to see that deserts are very different fom each other, depending on soil, elevation, precip, aspect etc. we stopped at 4 or 5, leaping out with our loupes and keys to identify flowers along the way. That was decades ago and I've forgotten most of the flowers, but I remember the impact, with special aromas at each desert. I am so enjoying seeing this selection of vegetation you came across on your trip.

I'm on the ferry right now, off to a dental appt on the mainland. I realize it's the first time we've been off since december, sheesh. Mostly cloudy day, some south breeze. I'm going to check on the pelagic cormorants at the Anac dock.
