    and are certainly willing to embrace whomever it takes to get it.

    Unfortunately for the GOP, they're historically made up of three groups:
    * Establishment types like Cokie (and she's about as establishment as you can get) or "Whigs" if you prefer.
    * Evangelicals
    * Know-nothing/John Bircher/Libertarian/Tea Baggers (probably with a big side-order of KKK sympathizers)

    Getting all three of those sets to agree isn't easy.  Evangelicals are starting to see the writing on the wall that they'll never see the changes they want (abortion, gays, religion in schools, etc).  Establishment types are getting really nervous about the (John Bircher) Koch's and their 'Tea Party' faux Grass Roots movement.

    Barring a populist that the Establishment thinks they can control, I don't see a unifying force within the GOP for decades.

    So they're fighting a rear-guard action (GerryMandering, buying legislatures, vote suppression, ad nauseam).

    Happy little moron, Lucky little man.

      As many Kossacks have pointed out, they've got the power to cause immense damage as they flail their way out of office.  I'd say it could be successfully contended that they already have, and will continue.

      That said, let's all vote and GOTV for the 2014 midterms.  Push them back, limit the damage, speed the recovery.  If we turn out, we win.
