        I was at work and having a busy day, so I couldn't type all that I wanted.  This Brooks quote really steams me for a number of reasons.  Mostly, it's the exceptionally manipulative manner in which he used language.  It's in the way he overtly acknowledges the crudeness of his slur and then tries to foist it off as attributable to some other parties.  He's being intentionally provocative without taking ownership.  It's a vile thing to do and there are some good theories in this thread for why he attempted it.

        I hope you didn't think that I thought the latter part of the quote was mitigating; it's definitely aggravating.  I just hoped that others might see it, too.  Thanks for the post.

          that's why it comes so easily to him. it's second nature b/c he's been at it so long. needless to say, of course :)
