  •  Father of the Year b/c they thought he'd be a draw (5+ / 0-)

    at the fundraising dinner.
I doubt that they really thought it through, but I can't imagine another rationale.  It COULD prove to be a stroke of genius, depending on what's come out on the scandal, and whether some folks just want to get one last look at him in action before it all goes down.

When I was in my mid-30 up and coming as a Research Associate and starting to do more public speaking at corporations and around the world, I received a notice from "Who's Who" that they wanted to include me in their next volume.

My ex-wife and are were so excited and started filling out all the forms, until it became apparent that it was really basically an offer to sell the $350 or $500 volume.

Essentially, what I gathered is they would put in the Who's Who anyone willing to pre-order the next edition at an exorbitant price.

My wife thought this still might be worth doing to build our reputation and consulting firm's business. I figured anyone who really ought to be in Who's Who would have already figured out how this racket worked so showing up inside that volume might just be adding one's name to social climbers or chumps so eager for social recognition that would agree to pay an outrageous price to have their pictures and bio's published.

hidden side of their volunteer work highlighted, and the charity gets a lot of money.  I doubt that's what they were thinking in this case, though.

and, I had a similar experience with Who's Who.
