    While it's common for gifts to universities to come with strings, it's going to be the university on the hook if they violate an applicant's civil rights because the donor has decided to veto an applicant because they are a member of a protected class.

    I have no doubt that universities violate this left, right, and center.  But... the problem remains that they are the ones on the hook when the news comes out that they have been engaged in illegal discrimination. They have to at least maintain the pretense that donors can't ask for the illegal.

    Universities are some of the most corrupt institutions in American life, but they've been able to avoid scrutiny by maintaining the pretense that nothing wrong is going on.  Tear away that pretense, and the whole rotten mess of it comes falling out.  Like what happened with the Church.
