    IRV or Ranked Choice voting would be better.

    Fusion voting is still a plurality election. You still split the ticket if you have a separate third party candidate, and that still gives the worst choice of three a chance to win.

    I voted on smaller party lines all the time when I was in NY; it felt great to be able to say "I like this candidate, but I'd rather see him support this small party platform." Despite New York's reasonably strict party recognition guidelines, fusion voting has been a great boon to third parties and in particular the WFP. But it's still plurality voting.

      to send an emphatic message of discontent within the Democratic Party wherein there is absolutely no way to do it on your own.  Obviously party bosses loath successful fusion voting.
