  •  Schott was forced out of the game so will Sterling (10+ / 0-)

I could be wrong, but I don't see any other way out of this. Not because its the right thing to do, but because it will do irreparable harm to the NBA's bottom line. I have no doubt Stern would find a way to kick Sterling out for the good of the brand. I would be surprised if nothing happened but a fine and suspension. If that happens there will be a boycott by players, fans and advertisers. None of them suffer from a boycott. The players can sit out a year if they have to without anyone struggling financially. Interesting times.

the NBA has in this situation -- David Stern is probably happy this blew up after he already retired (Adam Silver is the new NBA commissioner). MLB has a lot more power, in part thanks to the anti-trust provisions that Congress granted them several decades ago.

      •  29 billionaires against 1 (3+ / 0-)

They will find a way. If Sterling is as smart a businessman as he is supposed to be, he will get out as quickly and quietly as he can. There is always another billionaire who wants a sports franchise. He would still get a very good price even if its a fire sale.
