  •  I agree. Solar is already the "crop" of farms. (4+ / 0-)

Did you ever think that the one crop that all farms have in common ultimately is solar energy collected by plants and converted into stable long term storage in the forms of sugars, starches and cellulose?  Even animal farms just take the solar energy collected by the plant farms and transfer it to the production of animal fat and protein.  Same energy, same source, the sun, just different storage.

It would make perfect sense for farms to plant solar arrays and wind turbines where there is enough wind and collect their cash crop in the form of electricity instead of grains, legumes, and hay etc.  Just solar on all the farm building roofs would covert hundreds of thousands of acres of unproductive space into fertile soil.  Millions of acres land that is becoming marginal due to climate change or water shortage, if converted to solar, would supply all the energy needs of the world with little detraction from food crops.  (Solar cells would replace corn and other crops that are grown for energy, IE. ethanol, bio-diesel, purposes rather than food leaving the water and higher quality land for food production. )

    Plant Solar, Grow Electricity.
