  •  which version Kindle do you have? (8+ / 0-)

I recently got an Origami stand/cover for my HDX from Amazon, under $20.

It's perfect for on your chest or knees.

    •  It's a really old one (5+ / 0-)

2nd generation. I also have a Fire but I'm addicted to reading on the original one. It is on it's last leg, it takes forever to download a book and such. My Fire has a case that makes into the most ridiculous stand, when the old one finally gives up the ghost I'll probably get a better cover/case/stand.

      •  Sounds like ur Kindle has an indexing issue. (4+ / 0-)

From Home screen, do a search for a madeup word, like xxtyvwxxxzzz.

After a few moments you may see a message saying X number of books are not indexed.

        It happened to mine.

You can do a cold-reboot, by holding the power on button in the "on" position while you count slowly to 20. The screen will go flat and dark. Leave it like this for at least 2 minutes, then reboot it and plug out in to charge fully.

The device will now re-index everything, but when it's done charging it should be finished. Do the search again, from the Home screen. It should run fairly quickly, and say 'not found', or something like it.

If you see it still has a large number of books not indexed by the time you get up the next day...

You'll have to unload all your books, reboot the device, and add a few at a time back, checking the search function after each small group. You may have a corrupted book file which you downloaded a while back. It never finished indexing, so everything you downloaded after it never got to index, either. This makes everything on the device slow and eats up the battery.

It's tedious, I've done it, too - but it fixed the Kindle I thought was a deader. Runs fast, battery lasts a lot longer too.

If none of that helps, DK message me.

        :-)

I have done a cold reboot and a restart but haven't tried the indexing trick. Will do!
