    example and direction is a natural virtue, for it to be cultured or coerced, as the culture of obedience demand, the direction has to be perverse. If force is to be used, then it has to be contrary to good sense.

    Now, if we accept this principle, then it seems logical to at least suspect, whenever some irrational proposal or demand is made, that the object is simply to coerce.

    Coercion, like prejudice, it seems, has to be carefully taught.

    Whence comes the culture of obedience? I think it is the purview of people whose practical talents are lacking. If they are to survive, they have to bend others to their will.  MBA programs seem to have institutionalized their ambition. At some point we stopped focusing on what was to be done, and concentrated on who is to be constrained. Never mind that coerced people are not likely to be creative. Manpower management is killing the golden goose.
