    there was far more emphasis on "obedience" when I was in grade school 50 years ago. I don't think this is some shiny new corporate thing.

      ...to push an agenda of obedience,  authoritarianism,  or corporatism.

      A play and the arts are excellent venues to teach social and emotional skills. Out of that context, the way in which they are taught is too often condescending, infantilizing, and could be used to fuel the same corporatist agenda. The ideal "emotionally intelligent" person often looks too much like a defender of both the status quo and privilege... and there's an over-dedication to calm at the expense of other emotional experiences.

      Be careful when teaching kids how to be good human beings; because doing it badly could be just as bad as not doing it at all.
