You would already be aware that Donald Sterling has historically been the WORST owner in the NBA. It is only by sheer coincidence and the good work of BLACK people (who Sterling deigned to employ) that the Clippers, which were at the bottom of the NBA from their creation until they drafted Blake Griffin, that this team is in the playoffs now.

He was ALREADY outright embarrassing before this.

    •  Why is he getting the NAACP Lifetime Achievement (8+ / 0-)

Award? Isn't that going to be awkward listening to him give a long speech about his special "love" for people of color. While two or more 25 year old girl friends hang off his arms. (Not that I have anything against inter-generational love. It's just in this case in the context of his other remarks I'm wondering about the sincerity and depth of this relationship.)

you know historically how horrible an owner he has been. For decades, he drafted top notch rookies who ALWAYS left when their rookie contracts were up to go on to other teams, often having decent success in the process.

The Clippers were profitable, but often a joke when it came to competitive basketball. They were essentially a farm team for the NBA, managed to generate just enough revenue to keep the owner paid (as opposed to being managed to compete for an NBA title). Im not sure on the details, but i think there were some debt issues involved that Sterling was using the Clippers to pay, though the debt might have been caused by the purchase of The Clippers.

The quality of The Clipper's teams has changed in recent years. Their current team is very good. Many NBA fans around the country had begun to think that Sterling had changed his management ways since the teams had become good, began spending money to retain their quality rookies, and are now legitimately competing for an NBA championship.

And then this stuff comes out. And while many...if not all...NBA fans are completely pissed off at this scumbag of a human, I think that most arent exactly surprised and have a sense of him showing his true colors through this, confirming the negative feelings towards Sterling that all had for years, but had only subsided slightly in recent years with the good teams.

Notice...not ONE NBA related person will defend him. That does not represent people trying to distance themselves from his comments, thats people ready to throw the historically worst NBA owner under the bus, get in the drivers seat, and drive the bus repeatedly over him.

I cant tell if its a West End musical or Marxism in action.
