Obamacare taking control of the nation's banking system

Holy fucking hell that is world-calss crazy right there! Glad you chased it away! I hear it's contagious.

    •  There is some truth in the complaint about the (5+ / 0-)

ACA and the banks. The student loans that used to be held by local banks and guaranteed by the federal government in the event the students default (which removed any incentive banks had to collect or renegotiate) were transfered to the department of education and the interest on those loans is dedicated to Medicaid expansion. The TEA people were so intent on death panels that they overlooked what was happening to the banks, in addition to being deprived of the gross profits the insurance companies used to funnel to them to "invest." On top of that there was Dodd Frank which not only makes banks file reports but is on track to regulate other insurance companies besides the health insurers -- and to do do in co-ordination with European countries who don't like financial speculation either.
Where you interlocutor was/is wrong is in blaming Obama. He didn't write the laws. He merely encouraged the kerfuffle over the health care so the finances went under the radar.

"No drama Obama' actually likes him a kerfuffle.  If there is one, you can be pretty sure he's stoking it to let other stuff go unnoticed.

      •  She was mad that a personal check she had received (10+ / 0-)

from a client couldn't be cashed immediately on her account because she didn't have the money in there to cover it and this was somehow due to Obamacare. She had to wait 7 days for the check to clear and that was somehow Obama's fault.

Oh and having to wait for checks to clear NEVER happened before Obamacare.....

It was nothing so complicated as what you are describing.

        •  The check thing is partly the response to 9/11 (0+ / 0-)

as well as rules that prevent banks from collecting hefty fees. Not to mention the banks' desire to have dollars as a cost-free float to invest over-night for a profit.
Also, in the authoritarian mind, the top guy actually serves as a scapegoat. He who is in charge has to be available to take all blame. Harry Truman's big mistake was catering to the authoritarians by claiming "the buck stops here." When the top guy takes all the blame, all the underlings get off scot free.
That's why even Dubya is appreciated. Obama is doubly annoying 'cause he only takes blame for his own mistakes and then makes every effort not to make them again. Bummer! Puts the kabosh on failure by design.

          •  perhaps you don't realize it but poor people have (5+ / 0-)

always had to wait for personal checks from other parties to clear that parties bank before they could access the money. If the same amount was not in your account, you could not get cash back on the check. Of course, if the same amount was in your account, then you would not be in desperate need of that cash.

Now, you could always go to the bank of the person writing the check unless it was in another state, of course, or if it was across town, and you lacked transportation or bus fare.

This was true way back in the 70s when I was a struggling single mother, long before 9/11.

things! There's something else we shouldn't STFU about. Sometimes, people have a tendency to complicate a fookin' glass of water when it's not even remotely necessary.

It gets tiresome. I tune it out anymore, because it always seems to become a sidebar, one that the discussion at hand has little (if anything) to do with it.

This all started with "what the Republicans did to language".
