  •  You've nailed what some of us are doing (11+ / 0-)

Recently here in Kansas, a Representative accused us (and indirectly me) of 'stalking' them by showing up at their public meetings.   They were talking about TEACHERS and some of us with cameras who have turned out to every single public meeting anywhere in the state that we know of.

Sorry.  I'm over being nice.   We don't yell them down.  Occassionally there is a bit of a debate.  Sometimes we point out if an argument is a complete lie, but in the end we let them talk and respond.

From it, a whole lot of really stupid comments have come out of state representatives mouths.

I'm sorry.  I'm tired of playing nice and saying "oh, well, we'll just wage it in commercials and see what happens."

Nope.  I'm going to go to every one of their meetings.   They are public servants.  If they hold a public meeting, by IPU, I'm the public and I have a right to be heard and to cover what they say.

Monday Night.  Outside of Wichita.   Will the worrisome 'stalker' people show up?  I'm sure there will be a lot of teachers.  I'll make the drive.

Because damnit, I'm sick of saying 'let's play nice'.   I'd prefer we all play honest.  How about that.

    •  THANK YOU! And thank you for what you're (4+ / 0-)

doing. This is what we HAVE to do. We have to let them know that we are paying attention, listening. We will call them out on lies and make them accountable to the voters.

It's democracy, plain and simple. Nothing "controversial" about it.

we should know about it and they should pay the price. I hate it when cowboy cops go about trying to confiscate cell phones of those who try to record their misdeeds.

However, I'll have to say that the teacher's union in the city not far from us is going bonkers and wants a no cell phone rule on school property with heavy penalties for students who don't comply. This came about after an incident when a teacher was caught on tape being bad. Other students started surreptitiously taping and publicizing other incidents that were somewhat borderline. The union said their members felt they were under siege and that students should not be allowed to tape their actions. Parents seem to be on both sides. I'm not part of it cause I don't live there, but it has been interesting to watch.

I will have to say this - I thought that all the actions that came to light were pretty unacceptable, but I'm not sure how I feel about the constant surveillance. I probably have some bad days in my lecture sections, but I wouldn't ever do what some of the teachers were doing.
