  •  Some things aren't clear in the story (0+ / 0-)

and I think we are probably missing some critical parts of it.

For instance, the market assessed value on the tax website is currently $106,000 (the purchaser paid $116,000 in 2011).

Where does the value of $280,000 come from?

I realize we went through a recession and prices did a roller coaster ride (been there, done that and still doing it on my house). And I also realize that tax assessed value and market appraised value are different.  But those two values are pretty far apart. And that's an understatement.

If she bought the house in 1999, I'll bet she paid considerably less than $280,000. My guess is that the $116,000 more than compensates her for the amount she had invested in the house and had she sold it in 2008, 2009, or 2010, she would have received less than $116k.

She's been living in the house since Aug 2011 without paying rent or taxes.  I think I've heard a similar story recently.

In fact, if she needs them, I understand Stewart Rhodes and his Oathkeeper crowd are looking for another gig.

We are all in this together.

I just found on the Beaver County tax assessor's website an explanation for the value difference:

The relationship between the assessed value and base year market value, as indicated on each property record, is known as the predetermined ratio and is applicable to all properties. The predetermined ratio in Beaver County is 50%.
      And Zillow has this:

      Last Sold:Apr 1999 for $200,000

So, I retract my assumptions above.

However, I'm still not ready to jump on her bandwagon.  I want to know more about it before outrage kicks in.

We are all in this together.
