  •  i have a question (5+ / 0-)

I wonder who of his good friends pointed him to the photograph, one, several, all of them?

He's a racist old guy, as everyone knew. He seems to have fallen for this girlfriend, he could just replace her with someone poorer. She'd made friends with other rich guys, but she had been with him and he doesn't keep his views to himself.

He was begging her, he knew he couldn't control her so he says it's okay for anything, only please don't leave him open to the jeering of his 'good' friends.

If it weren't racist, and it was just, I don't care which man you hang out with or have sex with, but please don't be photographed with him in public, it would have been simply sad.  When guys get old and fall in love, they lose their power, however much money they may have.

The guy is racist, and should not be allowed to own a team, absolutely. So the outcome is a good one, he ought to have been banned long ago.

But I can't help wondering about the back story, who made sure he saw it, who was taping the call, if someone got paid, she sounded rehearsed?

    Is it wrong to wonder?

Either they're separated, or it's one of those marriages where the wife doesn't care how many mistresses the husband has as long as she's kept in jewels and furs.

to get it back in a divorce settlement.

That's really all I can think of there. The whole situation involves him in a phone call with his girlfriend - the same girlfriend that his wife is suing for $1.8 million that she claims the GF embezzled from her husband.

her buckets of money in a divorce. They wouldn't be fighting like the McCourts over who owned the team so it would make things easier.

Rochelle suing the girlfriend/arm candy/delicate White or Latina lady/Archivist seems completely ridiculous. I'm amazed that such a case could even be filed. Her beef should be with HIM. If they were splitting things 50/50 his gifts to VS should come out of his half. I know it's not that simple, but I'm sure the lawyers can legal it up nicely.

              •  He could have sold the team at any time (0+ / 0-)

The team is less valuable now that they've lost all their sponsors and they're basically forced to sell.

The better he looks until the divorce is finalized, the more money she can get IMO.

    •  Evidently he asked her to tape (6+ / 0-)

many of their conversations, because he was prone to forgetting what he said at times (not uncommon for an 80 year old). As for the photo, she posted it to her Instagram account, and likely he was a follower just to see what she was up to in her spare time; I haven't gotten into Instagram but I know several people who post pics then put the link on Twitter (stuff like day at the ballpark or cute stuff their kids do).

      •  that's interesting (0+ / 0-)

wait until he has dementia before tricking and denouncing him? That sounds right, when he was sharp he might have noticed it was a bit odd, or he might have still been feared. But if he's wounded, easy prey. I am not defending him, not at all, but this is a very cowardly method.

Banned for life can't mean that much if he's already suffering dementia.  He's confused, and his wife probably has seen him in better times and pities him. Sometimes the estranged wife takes care of the dying husband, after all the leaches fall off. Even when he's been a bad husband and a not stellar human being.

said some stuff about her being easily replaced, didn't he?

He's said some really nasty shit about women in the past.

It did sound like what you indicate, that he was more humiliated by having her seen "with" someone else - you know "I don't care, go ahead and f**k them, just don't bring them to the game!" but I get the feeling he wouldn't be so upset if she showed up with someone paler.

The guy's a jackass, and whatever motivated this, he's being made an example, and a good one, of what should happen to racist assholes.

As Kareem said - why are we outraged NOW when this isn't something new from him?

      •  said so (0+ / 0-)

but in fact he begged her to not humiliate him.  You don't say you're going to replace someone, you just do?

Kareem is a smart and decent man. He said that and said the one who did the tape ought to be in jail.

by late-life crisis panic over some woman who's got his d*ck in a vise.

So was Mel Gibson.  Doesn't make him any less of an asshole though.

          Oh, oops, anti-semitic ranting asshole.

          There.  Fixed it.

          •  for sure (0+ / 0-)

but wait until he's wounded is cowardly.  He could have been denounce long before this.

            •  Totally agree (0+ / 0-)

It's one of those "open secret" deals where people are expected to put up with a rash of shit from a racist asshole until it becomes big enough to embarrass, ya know, the NBA, and then people step in.

Everyone around him knows this guy is a racist, but they use a rant with his girlfriend to take him down.

Everyone knew Mel Gibson was an asshole, but there was that really sad moment when he was spewing at his girlfriend and you knew he'd given up life as he'd known it for this woman and she was telling him to fuck off.

It's not that I felt sorry for him but it was grueling to hear the pain and raw emotion underlying his crazy ranting.

We didn't need to hear that to know he was an asshole or that he had gone over the edge.  So I get your point.
