private comments made during an emotional argument in a private home should not be the basis for the type of sanctions the NBA is imposing.

Privacy is important - there has been plenty of blogging on this site about NSA activities.

Free Speech is important - likewise on this blog, and the American Civil Liberties Union mantra "even speech that is reprehensible"

Apparently, Sterling has a track record of doing things the NBA does not like or endorse - for good reasons.  If those are bad enough violations to warrant banning and forefiture, let them pursue it.

I do not agree that this tape by itself should require the penalities being levied - legally recorded or not.

Sure, Sterling is an asshole, probably a racist.  So don't buy the tickets.  Don't patronize his businesses. etc.

But be very careful of your own glass houses - rush to judgement much?

      •  no doubt about it. Sterling is a chump (0+ / 0-)

and probably racist and likely misogynistic, amongst a presumable litany of faults.

I lived in LA for 10 years and read often about his shenanigans with the Clippers and at large.

Even so, unlike the vast hoards of bloggers, pundits and league commissioners, apparently I don't have all the facts.
