    from the housing scandals is the target of Sterling's racist abuse. Magic Johnson is extremely wealthy, beloved by sports fans all over, and is honored with a 17-foot bronze statue in front of the Staples Center.

    It's easy for people who don't spend much time thinking about racism to see why it's wrong for Sterling to try to block Magic Johnson from attending Clippers games because he's black, but when the Sterlings block regular people from renting apartments because they're black it becomes just another boring social policy issue that they don't see as any of their business. The big mistake Sterling made was in going after the wrong guy.

      I'm not sure if it's really true that people look at this evil and blatant form of discrimination that way...I truly hope not.  But if there are people who truly can look at it this way, they are sociopaths, pure and simple.

      Shirley Chisholm was right. Our Republic is in deep trouble.
