  •  Using guns when losing the war of words (26+ / 0-)

Conservatives have already lost the war of words, which is why they must disenfranchise voters and repeal campaign finance reforms. As their ideas become increasingly marginalized, the less intelligent among them will increasingly use violence as a substitute for reasoned discourse

    •  And they've been threatening to do this (8+ / 0-)

every time they face a notable setback.
But we shouldn't be surprised. Everybody they idolize is a thug, violent or some other manifestation of a testosterone-overdosed freak.
They are dangerous to the discourse of this country, always have been, but are becoming increasingly physically dangerous.

In the comments after a news piece on the Federal Express shootings in GA yesterday, one person ranted that all the shooters in our recent spates of domestic body counts are Liberals. Angry, confused Liberals. I didn't have the cred to post on the site and won't take the time to sign up during work anyway. But isn't that the way? They create the atmosphere and enabling of violence and then point in our direction when something happens. Conservatives cannot take responsibility for the repercussions of their deeds and their philosophy.

I had to exit the site. The stupid was too thick to breathe through.

      •  Why they are like they are. (0+ / 0-)

Mr. Giant, please read "The Authoritarians" by Prof. Bob Altermeyer, a condensation of his work on the authoritarian personality done over the past 40+ years. (available for free PDF download at the Univ. of Manitoba website, or by googling The Authoritarians.) It is frightening to read, but explains everything about who these people are, and why they think the way they do.
And these are merely the authoritarian FOLLOWERS. It is the research on those who chose to lead these "morans" that is really scary. Authoritarian LEADERS are best defined as bullies, and are amoral, and without conscience. Altermeyer cites Tom Delay as one example of the type.
Every progressive, Democrat and concerned citizen should read his work. I would suggest the right read it, but two aspects of the authoritarian personality are the ability to hold contradictory double standards, and a high degree of self-righteousness. Even when they are described in detail, they would think, "that's someone else, not me."
The leader types have discovered how easy it is to con these people, and have set about to do it, ala Faux News, and the right-wing shout radio and internet sites. It provides a base of 25% or more who will believe what they are told, always, as long as they think it is conservative.

      People like me.
One starts going on about his guns and "liberals", I get tired of it and finally explain that I own more firearms than he does.
He denies it, I list the models and calibers, as well as my competition scores.
Idiot then STFU and wanders off, reconsidering his approach to life.
I also chide him on his inappropriate discussion of firearms in a social, political discussion and that I consider such things utterly boorish and disgusting.
