  •  Is anyone else familiar with the life of (5+ / 0-)

Władysław Szpilman? He was a Polish pianist who was pulled out of line to board the train for Treblinka by a policeman who recognized him. None of the rest of his family survived, and he had several close calls including being found by a German officer who wound up bringing him food and clothing. He wrote a book, The Pianist, which was made into a movie. I own the book but have not yet read it. I saw the movie several years ago.

While some people cannot read or watch movies about the Holocaust, I can't get enough of them. What a compelling life. I imagine his book is definitely worth reading.
