      with the intention of showing that Democrats or Republicans were ipso facto going to turnout in droves compared to the other side. My points were made to show that there are outside factors that conflate the numbers. Thus, no contradiction at all.

        You will get some big blasts of GOP numbers in the old 5th and Dems in the east and far west as the night goes on. All local county races are up this year.

        just pointing out that the lack of competitiveness on the Dem side suggests that Dems had less motivation to turn out today (though as SouthernINDem points out, the down ticket could also be a big draw).

        We should try to tease this apart to see if ALG is generating unusual organic support, or not. My gut says she's an appealing enough candidate to get people to go to the polls even if they don't have to. But I'd like to see what the numbers say -- in the context of past elections.
