9/11 was in part because the Cheney administration was looking for the "Pearl Harbor" moment and had no reason to stop Bin Lauden, even though the intelligence that he was planning an attack did exist. The lack of security was not because the airlines were cheap, travelers just didn't see the necessity of the inconvenience. But the overreach of the TSA, with its absurd no-fly lists (see Sen Ted Kennedy being stopped from flying), patting down granny in the wheel-chair, confiscating breast milk, ogling naked x-rays, etc is pretty unconscionable. And see what happens if you object to ANY behavior on their part. It's not about your right to fly, it's about your right not to be humiliated by a process that seems in place only to prove that you can be subjected to it.
And after that, we have billions of recorded telephone calls and emails without warrant, even though no one can show a single case of it stopping domestic terrorism - if even the NSA cares about stopping it, as it is not in their interest to do so.
So, who is gonna talk about the turn-key police state? Obama said we should "discuss" total surveillance, but I don't see it happening.
