  •  I'd say All of the above, but... (4+ / 0-)

remember, it's the Bible belt, so as long as Republicans can keep an eye on everyone else's bedrooms, they're good with it.

My large family is hard right wing in Western NC minus a brother. We grew up poor. In early 80's my Dad was a dishwasher at one point with 8 Mormon kids. Gov cheese and peanut butter is a clear memory. Free school lunches even after my Dad graduated and got a teaching position. May have shifted to reduced lunch towards the end of high school. With all the children and low wages our family paid very small share of taxes. Several siblings just started thier own families working making near poverty wages, thus, medicaid and WIC have been heavily utlized (5 pregnacies total siblings, 1 neice). One brother was born with mental illness that refuses help at 30, but will need medical or finacial help from gov at some point. Another brother had extremely young premature twins working for himself at very low income level, no insurance and had to leverage medicaid to cover months in intensive care and at least a year or so after until he got a job with insurance. Another 22 year old neice is on my sisters plan with pre-existing conditions that has required tremendous care as of late. Another Marine nephew used gov heathcare for their baby and WIC afterward. Everyone of the people above hate the President and take extreme anti-government views. Almost all conservative in NC have some or many cases like above.

      •  Unbelievable. (4+ / 0-)

And the party they support would take that all away if given the chance.  And they don't see it?

The GOP will destroy anything they can't own.

I did not cast the end of that well. Not only do they hate the President and have anti-gov views, almost every single one of them have made negative comments on facebook regarding "lazy" welfare recipients or takers in our society or even those getting subsidies for healhth insurance.

My brother's premature twins had to have costed $200,000 or possibly up to $500,000 or more. He was up in arms over ObamaCare after he got a better job and insurance.

My Mother actually said that subsidies for workers making just above poverty for health insurance was bad and they should just pay the rates the free market decided. Even as two of my sibling were currently using Medicaid for their pregnacies.

Finally, my sister is a state DHHS case worker for child abuse, etc. She speaks negatively of all these people sucking off the system and her on the ground experience. I asked her, do you realize your sample is biased because you're only seeing the bottom few percent of terrible home situations. You're not called to report on Grandma or the disabled person or even the couple like my good friend whos worked all his life, but needed help for a few months when the economy collapsed.

Anyhow, I guess I'm venting a bit. Hard to even imagine.

They do not even have the reflection to see that most of our family has moved up on the income scale precisely because we were given opportunities including those when young. Pell grants, etc.

If billionaires can afford to spend millions of dollars so that they can avoid paying taxes and fair wages, then they *can afford* to pay taxes and fair wages!
