  •  Junk Science, teacher bashing, & privatization (21+ / 0-)

The dumb education policies of Obama/Bush are destroying our system of public schools.
We are losing experienced teachers all over this country in every state. Why? The fraudulent use of standardized tests & the arrogant, unqualified, dilettantes in high govt positions like Arne Duncan, Kevin Huffman, Rahm Emanuel, Chris Christie, Bobby Jindal, Kevin Johnson & Michelle Rhee, Andrew Cuomo....
Enough is Enough. The Democrats need to wake up -there are tons of angry teachers. The war on women runs parallel to the war on teachers.

The method, generically known as “value added measures,” or VAM, is increasingly in use around the country — with the support of the Obama administration — after Michelle Rhee pioneered the method when she ran D.C. public schools several years ago. The result of this lawsuit could affect evaluation systems well beyond Texas.

“It’s dispiriting and insulting to be told I’m ineffective, a judgment that doesn’t mesh with my classroom performance or the time and effort I devote to my students,” said Daniel Santos, an award-winning sixth-grade social studies teacher at Jackson Middle School, another plaintiff in the Houston lawsuit.

how awful teachers are in social settings, all the time.  Sigh.

    •  It STILL angers and frustrates me to no end (8+ / 0-)

that a "barely taught in the classroom and was lousy at it" corporatist like Michelle Rhee is given any credence at all, let along a big voice on educational policies.

I voted for Obama, supported him in many things but will never understand how any one who says they care about education trusts the corporatists like Arne Duncan and friends.    Democrats supporting the public funding of privatization will not get my vote again.

FYI I am a retired teacher who taught for more than 40 years.  When I retired testing was just beginning (2004).  And I continued to sub for a while.    But it is getting worse and my heart breaks for the students and the many great teachers in public schools who continue to battle the corporate take over of education.

      •  How anyone trusts the corporatists: $$$$$$$$$$$ (0+ / 0-)

They trust them to fund their elections, and to provide them a very comfortable life when they leave office.

        The Clintons are bloody rich.

        Guess how?
