    Your first paragraph is kind of my point. All of these people can't face their own inadequacies so instead they want insularity and the most blatant type of racism.

    North Korea is obsessed with racial purity to the point that they would starve their own people rather than open up their country to the possibility of "mongrizing " their population.

      It's the flip side of every hippie who's ever argued that we should care more about who we are than what we have.  The proudest people are always the ones with the least to be proud of ... but that's because pride - the belief that who they are is something worth holding onto and fighting to protect, even if no-one else thinks so - is all they've got.  The sick irony is that North Koreans, Pashtun boy-buggerers, and Dixie rednecks are also arguing that hey, maybe it's not worth it to be assimilated just so we can shop at Pottery Barn and Banana Republic.

      Domestic politics is the continuation of civil war by other means.
