  •  Here's what I don't get: (20+ / 0-)

From what I can tell, there are mainly two groups of people out there interested in Bengazi:

    1. The GOP base.

    2. The media.

    3. Some Democrats in Congress.

Now I understand why the GOP base is interested. They see impeachment on the horizon, and the GOP establishment sees a fundraising source. So I get all that.

And I understand why the media is interested because they want to see a fight with plenty of fireworks. Especially a fight thats rigged against Democrats. So I get all that.

But I dont get why the fuck Democrats in Congress are interested strictly based on the previous two. Call me stupid, but I must live I some strange bubble where 98% of the public doesnt watch cable news. Also called reality.

    •  I totally get your point. (3+ / 0-)

For Democrats and the summer news cycle it really comes down to whether you're on the bus. Or, whether you're not on the bus.

That's a valid question going into 2014, with a spin war that could turn into Republican poison with no rebuttal or defense -- it's damned risky.

Read my piece, channelling Sargent, and you will see the dilemma Dems are facing.

      It's a difficult one.

      •  Is this a base election, or isnt it? (5+ / 0-)

The question you have failed to ask yourself is this: Will Democratic turnout in 2014 hinge on the Benghazi hearings?

If you think so, the yes, you must go in with full Benghazi. I can see the black voters rushing to the polls over it.

But if not, then what is the point of it?

Unless you are person who think this is not a base election, and there is some large group of 'swing voters' out there waiting to see what happens with Benghazi before they make up their minds. In which case, go in full Benghazi.

        Sigh.

        •  It's about more that this. (6+ / 0-)

It's about permanently smearing Hillary. It's about making the President a weak duck and ruining his legacy by stacking both houses and ginning up an impeachment based on lying to the people to win the 2012 election -- by telling them they were safe from al Qaeda.

It creates a lack of confidence in our ongoing foreign policy.

And the entire thing is a fever dream, albeit we made a few strategic mistakes they are using to make their points. We are in denial about that, so we confront it poorly.

Plus, most of the details surrounding the entire matter (and mitigating many things that happened) are classified.

          •  Oh please, really? (3+ / 0-)

Dude, Hillary Clinton has seen whole kitchens dropped on her and you really think Benghazi is going to do her in?

            My god.

Dude, Hillary Clinton is more than a match for this bunch.

I wont even dignify the rest of that with a response, because its lunacy.

No way Hillary comes out clean from a clusterfuck payback that she created while SOS.

We should allow them to proceed unimpeded.

HRC would like nothing better than to have the primary media focus be a mudslinging between her and "this bunch" if only for a few news cycles of the campaign. Even Pat Caddell would find it as close to impossible as can be to screw that up.

the Democrat brand..  along with repeal Obamacare!

And, yes, they hope it will hurt Hillary too - and it might.  Her State Dept screwed the pooch on security, but that has already come out. The conservative blogs and news sites are now pushing the fact Hillary prevented Boko Haram from being listed as a terrorist organization.  Kerry did when he took over.

They will do anything to keep her name continually dragged through the muck.

Although, I think Benghazi specifically is more about smearing the White House - even though this has all been covered in innumerable hearings already.

I think they want to wear away any trust voters have in Democrats in the hope they will stay home this November... and it may work.

      •  Sargent has my answer (3+ / 0-)

no matter what the Democrats do the media will put "some say" Republican Benghazi conspiracies out there - but I think the tendency to report on this would be greater if the media could play the both sides do it game. Impossible if one side is not participating.

What’s more, press coverage of the Benghazi affair thus far has left Dems with a sense that no matter what Dems do, press accounts will accord credibility — initially, at least — to whatever revelations Republicans serve up, even if they turn out to be bogus later.
      •  Dems need to criticize the unfair process first. (0+ / 0-)

Then, when they've established to the media and public that what the Republicans are planning will be a disgraceful, partisan Witch Hunt / Clown Show / Fund Raiser, they fill all 5 chairs with smart, well-spoken, highly-respected opinion-leaders who can provide fast responses before, during and after the RighTea Benghazi Circus Clowns  posture, pratfall, and prevaricate.

at the time to appoint Kenneth Starr.....The RW machine is powerful and lately I just feel like we all are swimming up stream with no way to stop it....We can make light of it here but the American people believe what the press reports. The RW knows this and that is why they chew and never ever stop......

      •  I must be a crazy person. (6+ / 0-)

Because I just cant find a single human being around me that even knows what Benghazi is, and the few who do dont give a fuck.

Makes me kind of glad I dont live out in 'Real America' I suppose.

Well, since we appeared headed into Benghaziland, I suppose I can expect Dem turnout to be lower than normal this midterm.

        •  It's about IMPEACHMENT, baby! (5+ / 0-)

Is a drive to impeach Barack Obama on its way?

We all know that this president is, um, unqualified!

His, um, father - yeah, his father - wasn't born here! (ferget citizenship through his mother, she wasn't a real 'mercan 'cuz she slept with the black ferner)

And we're sure we can find make up some high crimes or misdemeanors which will we can use to drive him out of office (or at least try, because voting against Obamacare got tired 37 votes ago).

And that impeachment thingy worked so well the last time we tried it!

I live in what some people call "Real America" (gawd I hate that term), where diversity is that we have three different kinds of Lutherans. No one here gives a sh&t about Benghazi, either, and the republican overreach is starting to wake up some of their supporters to just how nutzo their party is.

I'm with you on this one, BBB.

           Please proceed, republicans.

I've said it all along that if the Republicans get the Senate and pick up seats in the House, their first order of business in the next Congress will take up will be Obama's impeachment.

They'll make up a list of charges such as Benghazi, Fast & Furious, The IRS, Obamacare and a whole bunch of other charges, BUT the real charge for impeachment will be that he's black.

And our Corporate Controlled Republican Press will beat the drums for impeachment along with Fox, Hate Radio and Right Wing pulpit pimps!

            •  Should such a thing come to pass they should have (0+ / 0-)

their escape routes from DC well planned out if they expect to make it out of the city alive.  They might want to establish safe houses too, say in some place like Mississippi, were they might hide out until they can get out of the country.

              •  If Obama is impeached (0+ / 0-)

I'm going to withdraw all of my money from my banks. It will only take a few thousand of us to make good on this promise to prevent impeachment.

I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business.

same date and time to maximize the impact.  I'd say stock sales as well, but that will probably happen anyway.  If the people who think they can get away with it don't get it that there will be riots in every city then they are far more out of touch than I give them credit for.

Clinton was not black, although he was sometimes called "the first black president."
The hard core of the GOP thinks it is entitled to a one-party White House if not a one-party country. They will do anything to destroy a Democratic administration.

That's not going to happen even if the RighTeas lie their way to control of the Senate as well as the House.
