    They are over $100 new and slightly less if a refilled version but you can do the refill yourself.  It's just messy.

    I got a bottle of toner that came with a page count chip (which does not stop the printer from working but turns on a red low toner LED).  15 minutes to open up the cartridge, dump out the waste ink, refill and replace the page count chip board.

    The toner and chip were less than $15.  It images as well as ever.

    I have two toner cartridges which I will alternately refill and use until one of the other internal components fails.

    Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps makes as much sense as trying to pick up a chair while you're still sitting in it.
