  •  What a brilliant guitarist he was. I saw him play (7+ / 0-)

    in Boston in the late 1970s. He was in his 90s I think but still had he gift.

    •  He gave a lovely concert in Madison, Wisc., (5+ / 0-)

      when he was in his early 80s.  I remember that he kind of tottered out onto the stage, very carefully seated himself, adjusted his position to his exact liking, and proceeded to give an extraordinary demonstration of mechanical efficiency: I swear that practically nothing moved except his fingers.

      It was a great concert series for anyone who liked classical guitar: two of the other three concerts in the series featured Julian Bream and Christopher Parkening.
