    if only to demonstrate that the blue slip policy isn't the problem. Then you could stop recycling this diary and I could stop recycling my comments about how the process actually works.

      He was first elected to the Senate in 1974, a year when his state was far more Republican than it is today, and when bipartisanship/crossover voting was a way of life in the Senate. He doesn't get that times have changed, and is willing to maintain traditions like blue slips as long as they aren't too obstructionist.

      This is one of the problems with the seniority system - politicians from a different era can have huge influence, especially amongst Senate Democrats, who don't have term limits on committee chairmanships the same way House Republicans do.
