partially for influence and positioning. They're paying him which means they are buying influence and positioning.

I read what you wrote perfectly well.

    •  no, actually you failed. (surprising no one) (0+ / 0-)

it's not nepotism, or corrupt, or anything at all to have board members serve varied interests. As NATO/the west is obviously one of those interests (less so for, say, Gazprom) it's a quite reasonable choice.  You and the people who agree with you are suggesting that he has been placed there as war profiteer.  For which you have no justification except the fact that you would LIKE to believe that to suit your worldview.  If he makes a killing a la KBR/Halliburton contractors in Iraq, I will gladly change my view--but you are assuming only nefarious intent based on nothing.

        What?

Where the hell did I suggest that?

That's idiotic. If there's war then the gas company he works for will almost certainly go out of business. Unless they expect war and think they can work to get gas from Europe and the US with the influence Biden gets them.

But no one in Europe wants war with Russia. At least no one with any power. It would be foolish. Europe is already in a slump, a depression in places. A war would cut off the flow of gas from Russia and would devastate Germany's economy which would destroy any chance of recovery Europe had. Plus there's the whole nuclear weapons thing.

No one is going to war except possibly Russia and Ukraine. Or Ukraine and Ukraine.

And you already said it was for influence and leverage. You can't get much more explicit than that. There's certainly been worse done, but the idea that it should be no big deal is just wrong.

        •  all boards have people on them who represent (0+ / 0-)

certain interests.  THat's all I meant by influence.  Ok, maybe you weren't suggesting war profiteering, but some of the comments around here seem to be suggesting a similar situation as Halliburton in Iraq (which is basiclaly profiteering) and there is no basis for that.
