Judiciary Committee? Are any of the Dems on the committee of the Manchin/Landrieu variety?

Hopefully he doesn't make it out of committee, b/c if he does I share your fear that he is likely to get 51 votes from the full Senate.

      •  Interesting that both Senators from Texas (5+ / 0-)

are on the committee.  I expect they'll both support him.  Maybe Cruz could be convinced to vote against him because he's not conservative enough.

        •  Also both from Utah, ugh. (2+ / 0-)

I can understand Hatch, due to seniority, but Lee?  How did that happen?
Poor Al Franken, having to share a room and "debate" with Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Orin Hatch -- I can't even imagine the headache he must leave with.  That gang should not be allowed to play with sharp objects, let alone choose the nation's judges.

If Reid doesn't want to bring the nomination to a senate floor vote, assuming Boggs was voted out of committee, then Boggs does not get an up or down vote, no matter how many Reps and Dems want Boggs to be confirmed.

It's always darkest before it gets less dark.

      •  Very good point... (0+ / 0-)

I had completely forgotten about that point. Hopefully Reid does just that. While the questioning wasn't a complete trainwreck from this guy Boggs, I can still see him losing all the Dems and losing the committee vote 8 in favor, 10 opposed - party-line vote.

The only thing I haven't seen anyone address is what happens to the overall deal the White House made with the two Georgia senators if this guy dosent get confirmed. Do the other nominees get pulled or did Leahy already schedule their committee hearings? If he has already scheduled the other 5 nominees, we could in theory block just this guy with no real repercussions.
