on Campus even though I find their rhetoric idiotic and racist - just like any other group that people might find despicable. College's should be a promoter and bastion of free speech.

Whether or not the College should recognize and support a group like this - by allowing it club status - is a different question.

Look, I tried to be reasonable...

some members of the International Socialist Organization: one of the main groups involved in this movement. They alienate me as they are more occupied with attacking Israel than trying to organize Fast Food Workers or Following the strikes in China (big news as they grow each day)
They claim to advocate for "people of color" and they see the Palestinians as "part of a greater struggle against global capitalism. I always thought the Saudis and Iranians as part of the global capitalist structure.
BTW : Most Latinos are grateful for Jewish employers as one told me "No Jew ever threatened me with deportation"

a long habit of not thinking a thing WRONG, gives it a superficial appearance of being RIGHT, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom.

    •  Just curious, would you feel the same way (6+ / 0-)

if it were the college chapter of the KKK? What if they were holding mock lynchings, and posting old images of black men sexually assaulting white women?

Serious question, by the way, not rhetorical. I'm trying to figure out if people really feel like the whole "kids will be kids" attitude is okay for every issue, or just anti-Semitism.

Done with politics for the night? Have a nice glass of wine with Palate Press: The online wine magazine.

      •  No, I wouldn't support a college endorsed (4+ / 0-)

or affiliated chapter of the KKK. If the KKK wants to come protest on a college campus and the college provides guidelines for protests in a neutral manner, then more power to them.

Better to see the hate out in public where it can be ridiculed and dismissed.

The issue here, is not that the SJP group is being bigoted and racist(and they are in my opinion), it's whether or not Vassar should take steps to ensue that the group does not receive formal status from the Student Government.

In answer to your questions, this is not 'kids being kids', considering that A: They are adults, not children, and B: The stuff they are promoting is straight up White Nationalist. They linked an article from the Occidental Quarterly for God's sake. And then defended it because, "Well, they author may be racist, but it doesn't mean what he's saying is invalid." Jesus.

However, I still support their right to spew their hatred in the public square. In my opinion, this is some of what the true face of the BDS movement is comprised of and thus it should be exposed for all to see.

Look, I tried to be reasonable...
