  •  GOP passed massive tax cuts & IWR w/ 49 senators (8+ / 0-)

Dems couldn't pass a PO or cap & trade and never got EFCA to floor w/ 59 senators.  Obama had mandate of 53% of popular vote and bigger electoral margin while W lost popular vote and took office thanks to a state gov't controlled by his brother and a SCOTUS controlled by justices nominated when his father was president or VP.

That contrast doesn't endorse the efficacy of electoral politics in the current climate.

Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream of things that never were and ask why not?

    •  That's because Dems are useless (12+ / 0-)

The Dem platform is quite simple: drag yer feet.

Got popular momentum for progressive change? Oh, well, but we can't pass that. There's a Republican somewhere standing in the way. We can't get the votes. We can't end filibusters. It wouldn't be good politics to "ram legislation through" while the GOP has a minority; what if they did the same thing to us next cycle? Got an important issue that needs the attention of a bully pulpit? So what? No sense getting the public all riled up about something you're not going to change anyway.

Even if you have a few wacky firebrands - Warren, Merkley, Sanders (who, I know, is not a Dem - and can you see the difference?) there are enough DINOs, Blue Dogs, ConservDems, call them whatever you want, to oppose them, and no shortage of dead weight Dems that only won their elections because they weren't GOP.

People elect these useless shitsacks cycle after cycle because they're afraid a Republican might get in and their only political strategy is to play defense for their entire lives. Or because they automatically vote for whoever the Dem is, no matter how much they suck. No one is willing to flex the least bit of political muscle and force their side to do better if the cost is that they might cede the position for a cycle or two.

I've been saying for a long time now: voting works, but you have to use it right. Don't tell me the knife is dull and hard to hold when you're cutting with the handle.

    •  Never got a minimum wage hike to floor, or seem (4+ / 0-)

      to have even tried, either.

Remember in '07 when they said they were settling for a weak raise because it was the best Bush would sign, and they'd do better just as soon as they had a Democrat in the White House to sign it?

The Clinton/Kos New Democrat faction always pulls this crap.  They bullshit us with tales of Pragmatism and tell us stories about "what they wish was possible"....and utterly fail to deliver when we make it possible.

There comes a point where we have to decide if we're going to take our party back from them or continue to help them take it from us.

I left the Democratic Party because it is run by these Third Way DLCers and their "pragmatism" that turns into inaction to the magnitude of "heads in the sand".  The corruption is too entrenched in the party to reform it.  Here in Texas, the neglect of the National Party DLC pragmatists is self-evident.

Better for Progressives to start anew in the Greens by building that up and having the Democrats and Greens as the only parties in the two-party system.  Separately, we can delegate the GOP into the dustbin of history along with the Whigs, Federalists, and other parties of old.
