And please feel free to feel superior to the rest of us, specifically your obnoxious next-door neighbor, we New Yorkers.  It took seven years later and a right-wing Democratic governor (channeling his center-left father, no doubt) to get to where we needed to be.  My consolation is that we did it the republican way (notice the lower case "r") -- a legislature passing a bill to repeal an odious law and a governor signing it.  Normal, everyday stuff.  Okay, I feel a little superior about that.

if you'd done that BEFORE a bunch of other states paved the way. ;-)

Vermont's legislature generally is credited with being the first to adopt marriage equality without a court order compelling it (in 2009), which is fair enough, but the Mass. legislature weighed in by refusing to vote out a proposed state constitutional amendment that would have overturned the court's decision and new statute.

“Republicans...think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people... And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it.” Harry S. Truman
